Tom Hanks played Chuck Noland, a FedEx systems engineer whose life is ruled by the clock and his demanding job. This hectic life comes to an abrupt halt as the FedEx plane he's flying on crashes during a storm over the South Pacific while en route to Tahiti. He got stranded on a deserted remote island totally alone for four years with no one to talk with, except for his dear friend, "Wilson", the volleyball. While his fiancee (Helen Hunt) and coworkers assume he's dead, he must give up everything that he once took for granted and learn how to survive both physically and emotionally. The main and fascinating part of the movie is to watch Chuck Noland's emerging survival skills, and how he meets each challenge and overcomes with skill and ingenuity. Hanks gives a compelling performance. The viewer is drawn into his world and feels the enormous despair that his Chuck Noland inevitably endures during his four year stay.
The movie ends with Chuck's rescue and an awkward encounter with his ex-girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt), for whom Chuck has seemingly risen from the grave.

This completely entertaining family film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture, director, and screenplay, and deservedly won the Oscar for its subtly ingenious visual effects. Babe is all about the title character, a charismatic little pig who's been taken in by a friendly farmer named Hoggett (Oscar nominee James Cromwell), who senses that he and the pig share "a common destiny." Babe is adopted by the resident border collie and raised as a puppy, befriended by Ferdinand the duck (who thinks he's a rooster), and saves the day as a champion "sheep-pig." A supporting cast of talking barnyard animals and a chorus of singing mice work together to make this frequently hilarious, intertaining movie take its place as a family classic. The movie has a timeless, magical quality that is enhanced by its excellent cinematography.
"Babe" is a treat for the whole family and a film classic with timeless appeal that everybody will enjoy.

MPI Home Video has made a terrific decision here, combining all of its previously released DVD boxed sets of this classic 14-film series into one affordable package. It is a must buy for any Sherlock Holmes fan, or anyone who enjoys classic mysteries, who does not already have all of these wonderful films. When these were first released on DVD it was truly a cause for celebration, as it represented the completed painstaking restoration of all 14 classic films by Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. The UCLA Theatre Archives did an award-winning job in restoring and thus preserving these great films from 35mm master copies into the digital format, sometimes literally being forced to piece together the celluloid remnants that they found. It took the archivists several years to complete the entire project, but was well worth the wait. The result is that the black and white images seem as fresh today as when the films were released to theatres more than 40 years ago. The archivists deserve a hearty thanks from all movie fans concerned with preserving America's classic cinema heritage for future generations to enjoy. This boxed set includes a facinating feature on what it took to restore the films. Well worth watching, it's wonderful that it's included.
Titles include The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror, Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon, Sherlock Holmes in Washington, Sherlock Holmes Faces Death, The Pearl of Death, The Spider Woman, The Scarlet Claw, Pursuit to Algiers, Sherlock Holmes and the House of Fear, The Woman in Green, Terror by Night, and Dressed to Kill.
Atmospherically, "The Hound of the Baskervilles" is arguably the best of the 14 Holmes films, and the only one based specifically on a Conan Doyle story. It, and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes," are the only two "period" films in the series and run longer, the remainder taking place in then modern-day England and America of the late 30s and early 40s and run about 90 minutes each.

This is the video everyone is talking about, or perhaps you saw it on the Discovery Channel. This video is outstanding and is an impressive documentary about creatures that disappeared million of years ago. This is the sequel to the mesmerizing Walking with Dinosaurs, one of the most imaginative explorations of the prehistoric world ever made. This film uses the technology of the Jurassic Park fantasies to re-create the prehistoric beasts that roamed the globe after the dinosaurs.
Designed as a series of survival dramas, in each of the six episodes is centered around a day in the life of a prehistoric beasts or the seasonal cycle of a species. Including a pride of saber tooth cats,a herd of woolly mammoths, and a tribe of hominids (Neanderthals). The beasts and their daily lives is based on the best research available. The animation and animatronics are so well done, so detailed that at times the viewer forgets that he is was watching computer animation and animatronics. Includes computer-animated footage of mating and hunting techniques.
The narrator, Kenneth Branagh, does an excellent job of describing each era, the animal life, the flora and fauna, and the climate changes and how it impacts the animal populations.

In 1998, a team led by a French archaeologist went to upper Siberia, following the tip that there may have been a woolly mammoth encased in the permafrost. The team was forced to rely on local nomads for help in locating the beast; the natives were the first to locate the mammoth's huge tusks. Fighting the unforgiving climate, the team only had a small window of time in which to work before the Siberian winter would stop them; indeed, they had to return the following year to unearth the gigantic prehistoric animal. Eventually they wound up airlifting out, with an enormous Soviet-era cargo helicopter, a huge block of ice with two tusks sticking out and a mammoth inside. In typically exhaustive Discovery Channel fashion, Raising the Mammoth not only follows the efforts of the determined archaeologists, but discusses the history and evolution of the mammoth, theories about the species' demise, and the possibilities of using mammoth DNA to produce clones with today's technology. It's a fascinating look at what had to be an enormous struggle, one that paid off in terms of scientific knowledge and archaeological significance.

This is highly recommend movie. This well done documentary tells the rest of the story about the two men locked in battle over "Citizen Kane", one of the finest films ever produced, and the intense controversy it created. A true filmmaking masterpiece.

These episodes are a powerful reminder that The X-Files, like no other show on television, can span horror, suspense, mystery, romance, drama, and comedy, sometimes all in the same episode, and always with the production values of a major feature film. While the first season of The X-Files introduced us to Scully and Mulder, the second season finds the show confidently hitting its stride. Building on its earlier success, the show evolves, and in these 25 episodes, a glimpse is shown of a longer-running story line (which will continue through subsequent seasons) that is woven into the usual stand-alone episodes of the paranormal. These episodes hint at a global conspiracy involving sinister government agents, UFOs, alien abductions, genetic engineering, the ever-lurking Cigarette Smoking Man, and Fox Mulder's father. Season 2 fleshes out Mulder's family history, including the childhood abduction of his sister Samantha, an event that would shape him for life. As in season 1, Mulder and Scully are surrounded by a strong supporting cast, which adds a suspicious new agent named Alex Krycek, an informant named X, and a seemingly indestructible alien bounty hunter.

Dick Van Dyke is extremely appealing as an friendly likable and eccentric inventor living around the turn of the century. With nimble fingers and a unique way of looking at the world, he invents for his children a magic car that floats and flies. The special effects are quite tame by today's standards, but never the less effective.
The script was cowritten by Roald Dahl and based on the novel by Ian Fleming, best known for his James Bond adventures.
