German Language Tutorial Books

The Pimsleur German language cassette series is an excellent way to learn to understand spoken German and to learn to speak German. The Pimsleur Comprehensive Programs is one of the best self teaching methods available. No books are required and you can learn anywhere, at your choice. You listen to the spoken word in German, and the lessons begin with easily understood sentences and build gradually to more difficult sentences and words. It is quick, convenient and quite effective. The program is offered on CDs also.
Another excellent method to learning German is by using your computer as a language "instructor". This is done by using specially designed software for your computer. This software for your computer has various methods to teach: reading & learning games, listening and writing exercises, including spelling and sentence structure, speaking and listening. The computer will grade you for correct pronunciation for many of the speaking and listening lessons. And some have actual videos made on location in Germany or Austria with the people speaking only German.
Language cassette based tutorial courses are excellent for learning to understand and to speak German perfectly, but, to learn to read and to write German still requires good instruction to teach spelling, grammar, and sentence structure.
Well designed computer software based language tutorial courses provide a truly comprehensive instructional language course that teaches reading, writing, sentence structure, speaking, and understanding the spoken word.
